Advanced Audio Microphones CM-12
Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone
The CM-12 is a multipattern tube mic designed to reproduce the look and sound of the AKG C-12 / Elam 251 microphones.
The capsule is a 27mm edge-fed dual-diaphragm design, claimed to be within 2dB of the response curve of the original C12 capsule.
The basic microphone is built in China, then upgraded by Advanced Audio: the Chinese tube is swapped for a true 6072a, and the transformer is upgraded to a Cinemag CM-2480 (widely used as an HST-11A/Apex 460 mod).
AA’s model CM-12SE trades the stock capsule from the CM-12 for a Peluso CEK-12 34mm (AKG C12-style) edge-fed dual-diaphragm capsule (utilizing 6mm German Mylar for the diaphragms). The SE sells for $849.
A switch on the power supply allows selection of 9 polar patterns.
The Advanced Audio Microphones CM-12 is also known as: CM12, CM-12SE, CM12SE.
The mic was released in 2007.
