ShuaiYin SYR40
Bidirectional Ribbon Microphone
The SYR40 is a passive, bidirectional ribbon microphone modeled after Royer’s R-121. It is the likely source of all such lookalike ribbons, including the Nady RSM-3, the t.bone RB100, and more (see sidebar for listing).
Behind the grille, the ribbon motor is identical to that found in the “Fathead”-style ribbon mics; it utilizes a 45mm aluminum ribbon, 37mm Neodymium magnets, and a straight-sided yoke. (For more details on the motor construction, see Michael Joly’s article linked from the sidebar.)
The ShuaiYin SYR40 is also known as: SYR-40.
