Neumann KMS 104
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The KMS 104 is a lightweight condenser designed for handheld use, on stage or in the studio. It is the sibling to the KMS 105, differing only in pickup pattern.
The condenser capsule in the KMS 104 provides a cardioid pickup pattern. The capsule assembly is shockmounted within the headbasket, and protected by multiple layers of metal mesh and, according to ProAudioReview, the mesh is “internally lined with 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch foam,” and further that the mic has a “very thin, screened fabric directly over the diaphragm.”
The mic has a built-in (non-switched) high-pass filter, providing a -3dB cutoff at ~120Hz. (The newer KMS 104 Plus is a version of the KMS104 in which the low-end response is less attenuated — that is, the Plus appears to not have the KMS104’s high-pass filter.)
The KMS 104 is available in two colors:
- KMS 104: nickel (pictured), p/n 008548
- KMS 104 kb: black, p/n 008549
The mic ships with a padded nylon bag and a mic clip (p/n SG 105). A foam windscreen (p/n WSS 100) is available separately.
The Neumann KMS 104 is also known as: KMS104.
The mic was released in 2006.
