Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The PG42 is a large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone intended for vocal applications. As part of Shure’s PG or Performance series, the mic is presented as a low-priced vocal microphone for the stage or project studio.

PG42The PG27 and PG42 microphones utilize a one-piece, diecast internal frame, zinc diecast bodies, and hardened grilles that are riveted in place. PCBs use surface-mount components, which help ensure high consistency from unit to unit.

Both mics use a 34.9mm capsule, with a 6-micron, 27 diameter diaphragm. The sputtered gold area has a diameter of 23.8mm.

How does the PG42 compare to the PG27?

  • They share a 27mm, 6-micron, center-terminated capsule design.
  • The PG42 has lower self-noise (18dBA vs. 22dBA).
  • The PG42 is twice as sensitive (17.8 mV/Pa vs. 8.9 mV/Pa).
  • The PG42 has a high-pass filter.
  • The PG42’s pad is -15dB (vs. -20dB), lowering the max SPL to 145dB (vs. 154dB).

The PG42 includes the A27SM elastic shockmount and an aluminum flight case. The A32WS foam windscreen is available separately.

The PG-series microphones are manufactured in China to Shure’s strict design specifications.

The Shure PG42 is also known as: PG42-LC.
