Blackspade Acoustics UM17R
Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone
The UM17R is a multipattern tube condenser microphone made in the US by AMI. It is the premium edition of the company’s UM17, and differs from the UM17 in the following ways:
- The Blackspade K17 capsule in the UM17 is swapped for a Thiersch M7, a Mylar-diaphragmmed M7 capsule made in Germany.
- The Chinese shockmount is swapped for a custom-made Rycote shockmount.
- The imported power supply from the UM17 is swapped for a supply designed and manufactured in the US by AMI. The UM17R will likely have a 9-pattern switch (rather than 11, as on the UM17).
- The cable is upgraded to Gotham GAC-7, with Switchcraft connectors.
Like the UM17, the UM17R employs an amplifier circuit and transformer designed by AMI.
The transformer is a BV8LP, a smaller version of the BV8 transformer used in the Neumann U47.
The tube is a NOS EF732/5840, made by either Telefunken or Sylvania.
The UM17R ships with a Rycote shockmount, a power supply, Gotham cable, and a flight case. It is covered by a 5-year warranty.
