Advanced Audio Microphones CM-87

Description

The CM-87 is a large diaphragm, dual-diaphragm, multi-pattern condenser microphone based on the Neumann U87 FET.

The CM-87 utilizes a similar dual-diaphragm 6-micron capsule and class A amplifier design. The FET is a 2SK170, known for low noise and high gain; it has a higher input capacitance value than the 2N3819 used in the Neumann U87, which according to Dave Thomas, “translates to better transient response.”

Switches on the mic body provide a high pass filter (100 Hz), and the choice of three pickup patterns: omni, cardioid, and figure-of-8.

The mic ships in a flight case with a spider shockmount and foam windscreen.
