Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The TG-X 930 is a handheld condenser microphone intended for stage vocal use.

Unusually for a handheld mic, the element is a “true condenser” rather than an electret design. The capsule is the same as in the MC 930 pencil condenser.

It produces a fixed cardioid pickup pattern, which is very consistent across the frequency range. The pattern deepens slightly above and below 1kHz, but does not become omnidirectional at low frequencies nor hypercardioid at high frequencies.

Its frequency response graph shows a +4dB presence peak at 10kHz, as well as proximity effect below 400Hz within 10cm of the sound source.

The headbasket assembly is a multilayer metal-mesh design, with no foam. Beneath the removable grille is a separate, detachable pop shield. The manual advises that both pieces can be cleaned under running water (although not in the dishwasher).

The mic’s capsule and electronics are shockmounted to reduce handling noise.

The mic is available in two colors: matte black (model TG-X 930) and satin nickel (model TG-X 930 Ni). Both ship with a black mic clip (p/n MKV 8).
