MicW HN151
Wide Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone
The MicW HN151 is a handheld version of the n151. Both are wide cardioid condenser microphones with high-sensitivity (40mV/Pa) transformerless amplifier circuits.
The capsule in both microphones is a 5-micron, nickel-diaphragm design. Although described as a “one inch” capsule, its published diameter (23.8mm) falls just short of the traditional 25mm cutoff.
Both microphones have +5dB presence boost centered at 8kHz.
The mic’s high sensitivity — among the highest we’ve seen for a handheld microphone — would make downstream input padding a necessity when used close to loud sources, so the HN151 has an onboard switchable pad (-10dB) as well as a switchable high-pass filter.
Although the specifications describe the HPF as “-6dB/octave @ 75Hz,” the published graph shows it to be -3dB/octave @ 300Hz.
The HN151 was dropped from production in 2011.
