MXL 909
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The MXL 909 is a transformerless large-diaphragm FET condenser with a fixed Cardioid polar pattern.
Based on photos we have seen of the mic’s internals, the 909 is identical to the MXL 2006. Both use MXL’s 32mm, single-sided K67 capsule variant. Both use the V57 PCB set, also found in the MCA SP-1, MXL V250, and other models.
This particular circuit was pioneered by Schoeps; it is a transformerless design that is very responsive to aftermarket component upgrades. See the sidebar for commercial modification options.
Like most of the 900 series condensers, the 909 ships with a metal-frame elastic shockmount (MXL p/n MXL-56) and a foam-lined plastic suitcase.
