MXL 5000
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The MXL 5000 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone with switchable pad and filter. The capsule is MXL’s standard 32mm K67 type, found in dozens of other models. The circuit borrows its DC converter, used to generate the polarization voltage, from the earliest transformerless MXL mics, such as the V57.
In the sample we tested, the DC circuit polarized the capsule’s backplate to 66VDC.
An inspection of the audio circuit reveals some high-quality parts, such as Nichicon capacitors.
