The RK-47 capsule upgrade for the MXL 4000 fixes the mic’s hyped high frequencies, replacing the bright presence peak (+12dB @ 12kHz) with a flatter HF rise (+4dB @ 5kHz).

Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone

The MXL 4000 is a large-diaphragm multipattern FET condenser mic.

Part of MXL’s “900 Series” of mics, it sells for significantly less than its $799 MSRP. For example, street prices as of May 2009 were under $200. The “900 Series” is manufactured by MXL exclusively for Guitar Center and its various online sales divisions, including Musicians Friend, Music 123, and the Woodwind and Brasswind.

The mic has a single dual-sided, large-diaphragm, K67-style capsule measuring 25mm in diameter. It provides 3 pickup patterns, selectable via a switch on the mic body beneath the headbasket.

Additional switches on the rear of the mic body enable a pad (-10dB) and high-pass filter (-6dB/octave @ 150Hz).

MXL-60 ShockmountThe mic ships with an elastic shockmount (MXL p/n MXL-60) and a foam windscreen (p/n MXL WS-002).
