MXL 2008
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The 2008 is the latest reincarnation of the 2006/V63M. It shares a 32mm K67-style capsule and a transformerless circuit design with both its predecessors. The body and grille are virtually identical to the MXL 2006. The published specifications for sensitivity, noise, SPL, and frequency response are identical to the MXL 2006.
The 2008’s circuit is implemented on a single PCB, primarily with surface-mount electronics. In the sample we inspected, the two 1G resistors were through-hole, thick-film types. The input coupling cap is a generic box film type, mounted to the back of the PCB.
The front diaphragm is polarized at 46VDC. This is typical for MXL’s transformerless circuit; polarization voltage ranges from 40-55V.
The 2008, like its identical predecessors the 2006 and V63M, is a great candidate for DIY capsule and circuit upgrades; see options listed in the sidebar.
The mic includes an elastic shockmount and a rigid plastic carrying case.
