CAD Audio Trion 6000
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
The Trion 6000 is a 3-pattern FET condenser mic with a transformer-coupled output. It is made in China, and bears a strong resemblance to the ShuaiYin SYC3000.
The capsule is a 32mm version of the Neumann K67 (note that the photo at right shows a very dirty capsule; new Trion microphones would not look like this). The FET amplifier circuit has high self-noise (20dBA), rendering it somewhat unsuitable for quiet acoustic sources.
It ships with an elastic shockmount in an aluminum flight case.
StudioAuditions
Very, very, very detailed sound.
The mic weighs over 2 lbs with the shockmount.
Ships with shockmount and metal carrying case.
ProAudioReview
In the figure 8 configuration … the 6000 sounded a little brighter on the back side than the front.
Resolution, 2007
Male vocals on the Cardioid setting delivered a sound with plenty of presence, but quite edgy sounding. Off-axis the microphone loses high-frequency detail very quickly, but this did not seem to get rid of the slightly abrasive quality. The 6000 reminded me most of an sE Z5600 [tube mic], although to my ears the sE sounds smoother.
The CAD Audio Trion 6000 is also known as: Trion6000, 6000.
The mic was released in 2006.
