Brauner Valvet X
Cardioid Tube Condenser Microphone
The Brauner Valvet X Pure Cardioid is a Large Diagphragm, single capsule, Cardioid-only version of the Valvet.
The Valvet X is designed for intimate, close distance vocal recording.
The Valvet X differs from the Valvet in a few areas:
- Single Diaphragm
- Lower self-noise
- Simplified power supply
- Satin black finish on body, shockmount and power supply
The only difference in sound between the Valvet X and the Valvet in Cardioid mode is the slightly lower self-noise.
Mix 2009
The mic’s sensitivity was very noticeable; it is among the most sensitive microphones I’ve used. It picked up every footstep, door creak and mechanical noise. This sensitivity resulted in an unreal ability to capture every detail of a complicated vocal. However, it would also make the Valvet X very difficult to use in any environment that isn’t fairly well-isolated.
A frequency response curve is not available as Brauner does not publish this information for any of his microphones.
The Valvet X Pure Cardioid ships with: Aluminum case, VOVOX Tubelink Cable, BMS-2 shockmount, and power supply.
See Dirk Brauner describe the Valvet X:
The Brauner Valvet X is also known as: Valvet X Pure Cardio.
The mic was released in 2009.
