Cardioid Tube Condenser Microphone

The Behringer T-1 is a side-address, vacuum tube condenser, designed to be an affordable option for home studios.

T-1 Electret CapsuleThe T-1 uses a 9mm miniature electret condenser capsule, mounted within a 16mm-diameter perforated metal ring. Although the Behringer website claims the T-1 is a large-diaphragm microphone, it is not.

The T-1 is a poor choice for a capsule-swap modification, because the impedance circuitry supplies no polarization voltage to the capsule.

A 12AX7 tube is used in the internal amplification circuit.

A switch on the side of the microphone body enables a -20dB pad. A switch on the power supply enables a high-pass filter (-12dB/octave @ 100Hz).

Behringer has not published a frequency-response graph for this microphone.

…the Behringer T-1 tube mic uses a permanently polarized, miniature electret capsule… A small electret capsule does not have the dynamic range capability of an externally polarized condenser capsule and it does not possess the euphonic sound we look for in a side address vocal mic…

Compared in an A/B test to a more expensive AKG SolidTube, the Behringers lacked some of the top end zing but still turned in decent results recording an acoustic guitar. On a guitar cab, the sound was captured with great accuracy and male vocals were recorded with a flattering sound, rich in low end.

The T-1 includes 30ft cable, shockmount, aluminum case, foam wind filter, external power supply.

The Behringer T-1 is also known as: T1.

The mic was released in 2009.
