Audix OM6
Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone
Audix OM6 is a handheld hypercardioid dynamic for live vocal use. It differs from the OM5 primarily in its low-frequency response; whereas the OM5 is intentionally attenuated below 100Hz, the OM6 has a fuller response on the low end.
Both microphones employ the company’s VLM (very low mass) diaphragm for fast transient response.
The mic is intended to be used at a distance of 2 inches.

Feedback was never an issue when using the OM-6, even in the most demanding situations. I was on one show where the lead singer decided to climb on top of the main stack and dive into the audience, with the OM-6 in hand. From the front-of-house position, I saw the lead singer surfing across the crowd, in front of the mains, singing (well, actually screaming); there were absolutely no feedback problems whatsoever.

My one caveat: there’s a definite presence peak, maybe from 3 to 6 kHz of so, that’s really going to give a hard edge to some vocalists. That’s exactly what the doctor ordered for live sound, especially if the mic is good at squelching feedback. In the studio, though, it lacks a bit of crisp top in the 10–14 kHz range.Bottom line, you’ll have no trouble finding many uses for the OM6.
