AKG Acoustics Perception 400
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
The Perception 400 is a multipattern large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone from AKG’s low-cost Perception series. It was replaced in AKG’s product line by the Perception 420, which changed the pad value to -20dB.
The 400 has a dual-diaphragm capsule that provides three polar patterns, selectable from a switch on the front of the microphone body: Cardioid, Omnidirectional, Figure of 8.

The Perception 220, 420, 820, 100, 200 and 400 share the same capsule platform which is is one-inch, center-terminated and true condenser.
Like the rest of the large-diaphragm Perception microphones, the Perception 400 uses an output transformer.
The mic has a -10dB pad and a high-pass filter; both can be enabled separately via a pair of switches on the rear of the microphone body.
Perception 400’s chassis is made of precision-tooled zinc/aluminum alloy and has a stainless steel grille screen that is dent-resistant. It comes complete with a spider-type shock mount in a metal carrying case.
AKG’s Perception microphones were designed in Vienna, and are manufactured in China “under strict quality control” (according to AKG).
The AKG Acoustics Perception 400 is also known as: Perception400.
The mic was released in 2006.
