AKG Acoustics C314
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
The AKG C314 is a multipattern FET condenser with switchable pad and filter options. In terms of both features and cost, it fits into the AKG project studio product line between the C214 (MSRP $499) and C414 XLS (MSRP $1499).
The capsule is an edge-terminated, large-diaphragm design, mounted on an internal suspension. This is the same capsule as is used in the C414 XLS.
A switch on one side of the body controls the high-pass filter, which removes low-frequency content below 100Hz with a slope of 12dB/octave.
A switch on the opposite side of the mic body enables a 20dB preattenuation pad. Below this switch is an LED that indicates that the mic has overloaded (clipped).
On the rear side of the mic, a 4-position switch sets the mic’s polar pattern: Omni, Cardioid, Supercardioid, Figure-8.
The mic has relatively high sensitivity (20mV/Pa) and very low self-noise (8dBA).
The C314 includes the H85 shockmount, SA60 stand adapter, W214 foam windscreen, and a metal flightcase.
