ADK Z-251
Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone
The Z-251 is ADK’s modern take on the legendary Telefunken ElaM 251. It uses a dual-triode tube (12AT7, 12AU7, etc), a 34mm edge-terminated capsule with a 3-micron diaphragm, and a Jensen output transformer.
The capsule was designed to evoke the sound of the original 251, including its “airy” top end.
Like all of the ADK “Z-mods” tube microphones, the Z-251 provides a 9-position polar pattern switch on the power supply.
Chuck Ainlay
I can’t tell the difference between ADK Custom Z-251 and a vintage 251.
The Z-251 is finished in a pale yellow, reminiscent of its famous predecessor. In the ADK “Tone Color” continuum, they refer to the color as “Top Banana to indicate its almost golden sheen”.
A variety of tubes is included with the Z-251, allowing users to further refine the sound, distortion characteristics and vibe for the project at hand.
The Z-251 includes a tweed flight case, hardwood mic box, suspension mount, ring mount, power supply, Accusound cables (3-pin and 7-pin), and a set of spare tubes to allow for sonic experimentation.
