ADK Cremona 251-T
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
The Cremona 251 Au is a multipattern FET condenser with a large-diaphragm capsule and transformer-coupled output. It is part of ADK’s “Custom Shop” series of five microphones.
It uses the GK-251 capsule from ADK’s 3-Zigma product line; this capsule was designed to recreate the sound of the earliest AKG CK-12 capsules, with a very bright and present response.
The circuit is made with high-quality parts, including Wima capacitors, a premium JFET, and an Oxford/OEP output transformer.
Three switches located below the headbasket allow for multiple configuration options:
On the front of the mic, a 3-position switch allows selection of Cardioid, Omnidirectional, or Figure-8 polar patterns. The mic’s sensitivity does change slightly from one pattern to the next.
On the rear of the mic, a second 3-position switch allows selection of two high-pass filters: -6dB/octave at either 100Hz or 160Hz.
The third 3-way switch controls the input pad: 0dB, -8dB, or -16dB.
Pro Audio Review - 2010
The Cremona 251 sounds amazing on female vocals. I found the mic to be the perfect complement to the [Berlin-]47 Vocal Version for capturing acoustic guitar. In addition, I found that the mic sounds great on electric guitar, percussion, and cello.
Each of the Custom Shop FET mics ships with a foam windscreen, elastic shockmount, gooseneck pop filter, and soft storage pouch, all packed into a compact, padded, lockable suitcase. Individual frequency sweeps for all three polar patterns are also included.
