Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

Theh Telefunken Electroacoustic ELA M 81 is a dynamic cardioid mic similar to the M 80, but intended for general studio use rather than for vocals.

The M81 has a flint-grey body and “tri-chrome” grille and is easily distinguishable from the black bodied M80.

The main difference between the M80 and M81 is the mics’ frequency response.

Telefunken Electroacoustic Press Release, 2012

Building off many of the strengths of the M80, the TELEFUNKEN M81 retains the same minimal proximity effect, superior feedback rejection, and articulate mid-range. However, with the M81, the top end is pulled back a bit, yielding a flatter overall frequency response. This combination results in a microphone with a wealth of body and clarity, making it a great tool for taming brighter vocals and guitar tones and for fattening up percussion, horns and thinner sounding sources.

The M81 ships with a wooden box, additional black head grille, and a mic clip.

The mic was introduced at Winter NAMM, January 2012.

We will update this profile as additional details become available.

The Telefunken Elektroakustik Ela M 81 is also known as: M81, ELAM81.

The mic was released in 2012.
