Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone

The Ela M 251 T is a variation on Telefunken Elektroakustik’s reissue of the reknowned Telefunken Ela M 251E, and is identical to the reissued 251E in all respects save two: the body color and the capsule.

Telefunken Electroakustik has gone to considerable expense to recreate the AKG CK-12 capsule; see the ElaM 251E profile for more information. In 2009, the company announced the development of a titanium/aluminum alloy called Alloy 2213, which when used in place of the gold-coated Mylar of their CK-12/TK-12 capsules yielded a sound described as “airy,” “delicate,” and “more detailed.”

The Ela M 251 T retains the GE JAN 6072a tube, the Haufe transformer, and the modular assembly technique of the 251E. Note that the capsule pictured at right is the gold-diaphragm CK-12, not the titanium-alloy CK-13; the circuit is otherwise accurate.

The 251T ships with a wooden storage case for the mic, a historically-accurate power supply, a power cable, and a vintage suitcase.
