Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone

Part of Stellar’s “Custom” series, the CM-6 is a handbuilt tube-and-transformer multipattern condenser whose component selection reveals the influence of vintage European tube mics.

The capsule is a K67-style design, with dual center-terminated diaphragms made of 6-micron Mylar. The capsule’s outside diameter is 34mm.

Both the front and back of the capsule are wired to the amplifier circuit. The power supply has a 9-position switch enabling selection of Omni, Cardioid, or Figure-8 polar patterns, plus six intermediate positions.

The mic’s output transformer is described as a BV-8, dual-bobbin style.

The transformers are wound on high nickel laminations and are designed and constructed using dual bobbins. This construction method is used by the original vintage designs as well as the companies that produce high quality replacement transformers for the German originals.

The tube is a TungSol EF806, selected after extensive auditions against the Telefunken EF806 (a premium EF86-style pentode). It is socketed on the PCB, enabling it to be swapped or replaced as needed.

High-grade components are used throughout the amplifier circuit. Finished microphones are “burned in” for several days prior to shipping.

The CM-6 ships in a padded flight case with its power supply, an elastic shockmount, a 30-foot cable, and a foam windscreen.
