Sontronics STC-10
Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone
The Sontronics STC-10 is a cardioid pencil condenser microphone that is based on the company’s STC-1.
While the STC-1 accepts alternate capsules with different polar patterns from Sontronics, the company makes no mention of compatibility with the STC-10. This leads us to believe that the capsule is not interchangeable, which likely allows the microphone to be priced lower than its predecessor.
The STC-10 features switches for a pad (-10 dB) and low-cut filter (at 75 Hz) on its front.
According to Sontronics, the STC-10 is designed to sound similar to the STC-1, at a lower cost. The company does not go into specifics, but some examples of areas they were able to cut costs were in accessories and expandability. The STC-10 ships with a mic clip and windscreen, though a shockmount and padded case are available for purchase separately.
Also note that the STC-10 has higher self-noise (18dBA) than the STC-1 (16dBA), suggesting that lower-cost electronic components are used in the STC-10 amplifier circuit.
The Sontronics STC-10 is also known as: STC10, STC 10.
The mic was released in 2010.
