Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The DM-1B is a yoke-mounted large-diaphragm condenser mic designed specifically for kick-drum use. It has a tailored frequency response curve suitable for kick drum and bass instruments.

According to Sontronics, it uses a 32mm condenser capsule modeled after the Neumann K67.

The mic body measures approximately 9cm in diameter, and ships with a metal yoke mount to facilitate positioning. Note that this is an end-address microphone.

A switch on the mic body enables a -15dB pad; when engaged, the pad brings the mic’s max SPL to 150dB.

The mic is covered by a lifetime warranty.

Sound On Sound - 2011
The DM1B was the real stand-out for me. Four hundred dollars is not cheap for a fairly specialised mic, but the way it performed in front of a bass amp and bass drum could make a small-studio owner such as myself think seriously about adding it to their mic collection.

The mic was released in 2011.
