Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The SM137 is a Cardioid condenser microphone intended primarily for instrument miking.

Its frequency response rolls off (approximately 2dB/octave below 300Hz), suggesting that it is less prone to proximity effect when placed closed to sources. The high frequency response shows two moderate presence peaks (+2.5dB at 4kHz and 10kHz).

The mic’s polar pattern is very consistently Cardioid, across the audible spectrum. Off-axis coloration is minimal.

The capsule uses a 2.5-micron Mylar diaphragm metallized with 24-karat Gold. (The diaphragm diameter has not been released.)

A 3-layer metal mesh grille helps reduce plosives.

According to Shure, amplifier components are high grade, and utilize gold-plated connectors both internally and externally. The output circuit is transformerless, providing an impedance of 150Ω.

The SM137 ships with a soft storage pouch (Shure p/n 95C2313), a foam windscreen (p/n A3WS), and a mic clip (A25D). It is compatible with two Shure “isolation mounts,” models A55M and A55HM, available separately.

The mic was released in 2009.
