Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

The e902 is a dynamic microphone designed for accurate low-frequency capture and high sound pressure levels.

Its frequency response is tailored for kick drum, with a 20dB lift above 1kHz, peaking at 5kHz and 10kHz. The low-frequency boost is more modest (+10dB at 60Hz), although given the 1M measuring distance, these figures do not account for proximity effect.

The mic features all-metal body construction, integral stand mount and shock-mounted capsule with hum-compensating coil. Its very low sensitivity (0.2 mV/Pa at 1kHz) suggests it will handle loud sources without need for downstream input padding.

Mix (2005)
The e902 ended up being my main mic in the kick drum submix — it could stand alone with plenty of high-end crispness and solid low end. I quickly found the sweet spot, and I liked that the XLR connector and integrated holder worked well together at the end of my short boom stand.

Sennheiser received a TEC Award for their e-series drum mics in 2005.

The Sennheiser Electronics Corporation e 902 is also known as: evolution 902.
