RØDE Podcaster
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
The Podcaster is a large-diaphragm fixed-cardioid broadcast mic with built-in analog-digital converters and a USB jack.
The Podcaster is one of only a very few USB microphones with dynamic moving-coil cartridges. (Most USB mics are condensers.)
The mic has a 3.5mm headphone jack, plus a rotary volume control, built into the mic body, enabling latency-free monitoring of the audio source.
The Podcaster’s cartridge is a 28mm-diameter moving coil element with Neodymium magnets.
Using power supplied by the USB bus, the onboard ADC is capable of producing 18-bit resolution at sampling rates from 8kHz to 48kHz.
The mic includes a 3m USB cable and a 10-year warranty. An optional shockmount (p/n PSM-1) is available separately.
Electronic Musician, 2007
The capsule is not internally shockmounted and the mic is susceptible to handling noise. You’ll want to use Røde’s PSM-1 spider-style shockmount ($49) if floor- or tableborne rumble is an issue.
