Microtech Gefell UMT 800
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
The UMT800 is a multipattern FET condenser built around Gefell’s PVC-membrane M7 capsule. The mic has two diaphragms and a single, shared backplate. A switch on the microphone body allows selection of five different pickup patterns: cardioid, wide cardioid, omnidirectional, figure-8, hypercardioid.
Two recessed DIP switches on the mic body can selectively (and separately) enable a preattenuation pad (-10dB) and a high-pass filter (-10dB @ 90 Hz).
The UMT 800 ships with a mic clip (p/n EA 92) in a padded wooden storage case. Two finishes are available:
- Satin nickel (p/n 211104)
- Dark bronze (p/n 211105)
SoundOnSound
the mic has a nominal 40Hz-18kHz frequency response, though there’s still a significant usable range above 18kHz, and the frequency response plots show a slight lift in the 10kHz region, which helps to give the sound a little air without introducing harshness. Interestingly, the presence peak is most pronounced in omni mode, with a 5 or 6dB rise at around 12kHz.
The Microtech Gefell UMT 800 is also known as: UMT800.
