CardioidMicrotech Gefell MT 71 S

MSRP: $1,800 Cardioid Condenser Microphone

Microtech Gefell MT 71 S

Description

The MT 71 S is a transformerless, fixed-cardioid FET condenser utilizing Gefell’s famous M7 capsule.

Because this mic is a single-pattern mic, the rear membrane of the M7 capsule is not connected to the circuit.

It is the single-pattern version of the UMT 70 S; cardioid performance of the UMT 70 S matches that of the MT 71 S. (On the Gefell website, the two graphs are identical, although it is possible that the presence of the rear diaphragm on the multipattern mic actually alters the front-side cardioid response in ways not illustrated by the frequency-response plot.)

Switches on the mic body enable a -10dB pad and a high-pass filter (at 90Hz).

Gefell

The omni-directional pattern shows a slight 2dB rise in the vicinity of 10.5kHz while the bass response is perfectly flat. The cardioid and figure 8 patterns exhibit a smooth treble boost rising which peaks at about 4dB in the range of 7kHz. This response coupled with a slight roll-off at low frequencies is what gives the microphone its legendary “presence”.

The mic is available in two colors:

  • satin nickel (p/n 211126)
  • matte black (p/n 211127)

Both are shipped in a wooden case. As with the multipattern UMT70S, all accessories are optional: foam windscreen, pop filter, mic clip (p/n MH 75), stand clamp (MKV 9), suspension mount (EA 21), etc.

The Microtech Gefell MT 71 S is also known as: MT71S, MT-71, MT-71S.
