Microtech Gefell M 221
Detachable-Capsule Condenser Microphone
The M 221 is a high-fidelity omnidirectional condenser microphone based on the company’s MK221, half-inch nickel-diaphragm capsule design.
The same capsule is used on the Josephson c617 Set, also a high-fidelity omni condenser.
The MK221 capsule is from MTG’s measurement-microphone business. The nickel diaphragm is 2 microns thick. It is polarized at 200V by the M221 circuit.
Other half-inch capsules can be used with the M 221 head amplifier, as well.
The mic’s published frequency response is nominally flat from 20Hz–20kHz, with less than 1dB variation in the high frequencies. According to MTG, the mic’s response is flat (±2dB) down to 3.5Hz.
The M 221 ships with two spherical acoustic equalizers. Either can be slid onto the neck of the microphone after removing the capsule.
The KA 3 is 30mm rubber sphere; it provides a 3dB boost from 4kHz–12kHz. The KA 4, a 40mm sphere, provides a 3dB boost from 1kHz–12kHz.
The Microtech Gefell M 221 is also known as: M221.
The mic was released in 2011.
