MXL USB.006
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
MXL USB.006 is an inexpensive USB condenser microphone. It has a fixed Cardioid pickup pattern, and outputs digital audio at 16 bit, 48kHz.
The mic uses MXL’s standard small-diaphragm 22mm capsule, as found in the 990, 603S, 604, and other microphones.
The mic has 3 gain settings via a switch on the rear of the microphone body, but no headphone monitoring.
Sound On Sound - 2007
The MXL mic had plenty of gain, with signal peaks in the region of -10dB at the high gain setting, while the lower gain settings left adequate headroom for more spirited singing. The recorded result was pretty much as I’d have expected from MXL’s conventionally wired, lower-cost mics used via a competent preamp, and the tonality was very warm, in-your-face and radio DJ friendly. Of the three mics, this suited my voice the best.
The USB.006 ships with a 10ft USB cable, a folding tripod desk stand, a hard mount, and zippered storage case.
