MXL CR-89
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The CR-89 is a fixed Cardioid condenser microphone. It appears to be a newer revision to the company’s V89, and shares that microphone’s 64mm diameter body, capsule, and a similar, possibly identical transformerless circuit.
Both of these microphones are described as employing a “tuned grill cavity [to reduce] standing waves and harmonic distortion.”
The capsule in both microphones is a 32mm O.D. dual-backplate model, center-terminated, with 6-micron Mylar diaphragms. The rear diaphragm is not metallized; this is common for Cardioid microphones.
The circuit in both microphones is implemented with surface mount components, multiple integrated circuits, and two large Nichicon Muse electrolytic capacitors.
The CR-89 ships with a metal-frame elastic shockmount, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and an aluminum flight case.

The mic was released in 2013.
