Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone

The Clarion FC-357 is a multipattern FET condenser with transformer-coupled output.

The capsule diameter measures 35mm, with a diaphragm diameter of 28.25mm. The capsule is a dual-diaphragm, center-terminated design; its manufacture is closely monitored to ensure that diaphragm tension and damping are to specification. The diaphragm is made of gold-coated Dupont Mylar.

The mic offers three pickup patterns (cardioid, omni, and figure-of-8) that can be switched via the microphone body.

A second switch offers a common -10dB pad and a unique +10dB high-gain position (as well as a neutral middle position). The pad allows the mic to be used at high-SPL sources without overdriving the mic’s amplifier. The +10dB position could be used for quiet sources, and/or to reduce the amount of gain applied by the mic pre. This switch allows the user to “color” the mic by using more or less preamp gain for any given source.

The Clarion ships in a flight case with a suspension shockmount, foam windscreen, and a sustainably-produced wooden storage box (for the mic).
