Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

The Bing Carbon Microphone is a true carbon transducer, made by adapting the carbon element from an old telephone.

The frequency response of this transducer is limited; the microphone is intended as an “effects” mic, often paired with a higher-fidelity microphone on a single source.

The transducer takes high sound pressure levels without damage. In fact, if the mic’s sensitivity drops, the recommended solution is to unscrew the transducer and drop it onto a table from a height of 12''. The resulting impact redistributes the carbon granules, restoring the microphone’s intended performance level.

The mic ships with an external power supply, which powers the mic and provides a transformer-balanced 150Ω output signal (capable of driving a long XLR audio cable). The power supply can be powered by 9V battery, or wall wart.
