Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone

The Audix OM7 is a handheld dynamic mic. As part of the OM series, it is intended for live sound applications.

The mic is unique for its low sensitivity, just 0.8mV/Pa — lower than the Shure SM7B, which is known for its low output level. The benefit of the low sensitivity of the OM7 is that it allows, according to Audix, “unprecedented” gain before feedback. But it must be used with high-gain, high-headroom consoles.

Its frequency response chart shows a strong presence boost rising above 1kHz, centered at 5kHz and falling from 12kHz and above.

The body is die-cast zinc alloy, with a ball grille made of steel wire mesh. The capsule uses a “VLM” (very low mass, type C) diaphragm. The mic has no output transformer.
