Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Audix CX-112B is a side-address, large-diaphragm, transformerless condenser with a fixed Cardioid polar pattern.

Its 35mm capsule has a diaphragm diameter of 27.5mm, and is center-terminated. Two switches on the mic body enable a low-frequency roll-off and -10dB pad.

The “B” improves upon the CX-112 with better specifications and lighter weight; the original had lower sensitivity (14mV/Pa vs. 18mV/Pa) and higher self-noise (18dBA vs. 15dBA). The two mics have different sonic profiles as well: the original had a relatively flat frequency response, with gentle +3dB lifts in the low and mid-high frequencies, whereas the B version has a pronounced +6dB peak at 8kHz.

We have also noted that the original CX-112 had an edge-terminated capsule, while the B revision has a center-terminated capsule.

Two switches on the CX-112B body (below the grille) enable a -10dB pad and high-pass filter.

The mic’s circuitry contains a DC-DC converter, enabling the capsule to be polarized at ~60V from a 48V phantom power supply.

The CX-112B ships with:

  • Adjustable one piece metal clip (MC-112)
  • Foam-lined wood case (CASE-WOOD)

The Audix CX-112B is also known as: CX112B.
