Audio-Technica ATM610
Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone
The Audio-Technica ATM610 is a hypercardioid dynamic handheld microphone designed for live vocal use. When still in production, it was the premier handheld vocal mic in Audio-Technica’s Artist Series lineup. (It was replaced in 2012 by the ATM610a.)
The mic’s hypercardioid polar pattern can help reduce feedback problems in environments where monitors or other instruments are behind the microphone. Note, however, that the mic’s polar pattern becomes less directional at high frequencies; the mic is 15dB more sensitive at its null points (±135°) above 5kHz than at 1kHz.
According to Audio-Technica, the mic’s all-metal construction with “dual wall floating technology” helps reduce handling noise. A multi-stage grille reduces pops and sibilance.
