Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The ATM31 is a vocal condenser microphone with a fixed-charge electret capsule. It requires the use of a 1.5V “AA” battery, which fits into the 21mm shaft of the microphone body (where it would reportedly last for several thousand hours of usage).
The electret capsule is a small-diaphragm design with a 4-micron, low-mass diaphragm.
The mic body houses the amplifier circuit, the aforementioned AA/UM3 battery compartment, a power switch, and, according to the circuit diagram, a very small transformer that steps the mic’s output impedance down from 2000 to 600Ω.
According to the owner’s manual, this head amplifier can be used with other electret-capsule heads, although no specific models are named.
