AKG Acoustics P170
Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone
The P170 is a simple Cardioid pencil condenser. It is the 3rd-generation pencil mic from AKG’s “Perception” line of project-studio microphones.
Like its immediate predecessor (the Perception 170), the P170 has a half-inch “true condenser” (externally polarized) capsule.
Another feature retained from the Perception 170 is the switchable 20dB pad.
How does the P170 differ from the Perception 170?
- The P170 has higher sensitivity, 15mV/Pa vs 12mV/Pa.
- The P170 has lower self-noise, 19dBA vs 21dBA.
- The P170 has a black finish, rather than metallic silver/blue.
- The P170 MSRP is roughly half the price of the Perception 170: $129 vs. $279.
The P170 ships with a hard mount.
