Definition of "spherical":

Spherical microphones are built in the shape of a sphere.

Mounting a transducer on the surface of a sphere affects the frequency response of the transducer, due to the way sound waves flow around a spherical surface.

See also spherical-capsule microphones, which can be built into bodies of any shape, but which mount their transducers onto a small sphere (the diameter of which is usually about 4cm) — again, to take advantage of the affects of the sphere on the transducer’s response.
