Blumlein Ribbon Stereo Microphone

The Stereo SR-2N from Stager Microphones combines two of their popular SR-2N passive ribbon mics into one mic body, in a Blumlein (offset 9°) arrangement.

According to Matt Stager, the FOH engineer for Carrie Underwood was using two SR-2N mics on tour, inspiring Matt to build a one-off stereo version to facilitate placement. That stereo version was subsequently added to the Stager line.

Each half of the Stereo SR-2N is identical to the mono SR2N.

Both models use the same 2-inch ribbons, neodymium magnets and custom toroidal transformer.

This stereo version allows for accurate use of the Blumlein mic technique. According to the manufacturer, “the phase coherency between the sides is better with the stereo version because the ribbon motors are closer together.”

Most technical specifications are not provided by the manufacturer.

The Stereo SR-2N ships in an aluminum case and includes a Mogami stereo breakout cable. Stager offers a lifetime re-ribboning service. A stereo shock mount is provided with matched pairs.
