CardioidViolet Design Ltd. Flamingo Junior

Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Flamingo Junior Standard, aka “The Junior,” and the Flamingo Junior Vintage, are downsized, cardioid only, FET versions of the company’s high-end Flamingo tube microphones.

The Junior Standard and Junior Vintage differ in only two respects:

  1. The Vintage is tuned to more closely resemble the sound of vintage mics, with warmer mids and diminished highs, and
  2. the body is painted matte black instead of polished violet.

The hardware for both mics is identical. The capsule employs a single, 26mm (large) diaphragm, shockmounted within a head described as “acoustically transparent;” it consists of multiple layers of brass mesh. Electronics are Class A and include a custom-wound humbucking transformer (as in the tube versions).

The custom-tuned frequency response has smooth enhancement at the lowest registers, mid-range at 2kHz-3kHz, and also in the 12kHz region, yielding recordings with low-end punch and high-end air.

Both models are phantom powered.

The Violet Design Ltd. Flamingo Junior is also known as: Junior, Flamingo-Jr, Flamingo Jr.
