Detachable-Capsule Pencil Condenser Microphone
Studio Projects’ C4 is a detachable-capsule pencil mic built by 797 Audio in China. The C4 is sold only as a matched pair.
Each mic has two three-way switches built into the body. The first is a three-position pad, offering 0dB, -10dB, and -20dB options. The second is a high-pass filter, offering a 6dB/octave cut at either 75Hz or 150Hz.
Like most of the mics in the Studio Projects line, the C4 was redesigned in 2006 by Brent Casey of PMI Audio. According to Casey, the revised C4 has a new amplifier circuit designed for high headroom; the mic’s circuit can withstand 139 dB SPL with no pad, or 159 dB SPL with the optional non-capacitive pad engaged.
The new version also has higher sensitivity and 2dB lower noise (from 18dBA to 16dBA). Finally, a hypercardioid capsule was introduced.
The C4 kit includes a matched pair of head amps, two omni capsules, two cardioid capsules, two mic clips (p/n C4SC), two foam windscreens, a stereo mounting bar (p/n SPSB), and a hard-shell carrying case.
The Studio Projects C4 is also known as: C-4.
The mic was released in 2003.
