Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone

The EL308 was a prototype of what was intended to be the first commercially released “Golden Ellipsoid” microphone, featuring the revolutionary new capsule design by George Cardas and David Bock. The mic was shown in 2005 but never reached distributors due to brewing conflict within Soundelux.

The mic was visually exciting, painted “Ferrari red” with an enameled yellow Soundelux badge on the case. Two versions of the prototype can be seen online:

The EL308 was a dual-diaphragm, multipattern tube microphone, with a pattern-selection switch on the power supply. It is the most direct ancestor to the new Bock 507, which will shortly fulfill the 308’s destiny as the first commercial mic with a Cardas elliptical capsule.

The EL308 may well see release in 2009 as the Bock 508.

The Soundelux EL308 is also known as: 308.

The mic was released in 2005.
