Omnidirectional Boundary Microphone

The MKE 212 is a boundary microphone with several powering and connection options.

Boundary microphones combine omnidirectional transducers with reflective surfaces, such as the direct and reflected sound combine to yield a +6dB increase in signal strength. The size of the surface to which the transducer is coupled determines the low-frequency rolloff of the microphone; larger surfaces provide lower frequency reproduction.

Sennheiser

[W]ithout any additional surface, the MKE 212 has a lower frequency roll-off point of 1 kHz. To attain a lower cutoff frequency, e.g. 500 Hz, a board of 350 mm x 350 mm would be necessary.

The MKE 212 was available in several configurations:

  • MKE 212 R - has an 8-pin DIN connection for battery power, via Sennheiser batter adapters MZA 10, MZA 10N, MZA 10U or any DIN 45594-standard power supply (+3.5&endash;15V).
  • MKE 212-3 - incorporates mount for Sennheiser handgrip modules K3N, K3U, K30AV.

The plate of the MKE 212 measures 165 x 165mm. The top of the microphone grille stands at a height of 10mm.

Specs shown in the table below correspond to the MKE 212 R.
