CardioidSennheiser Electronics Corporation ME 64

Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone

The ME 64 is a detachable cardioid electret capsule module for the K6 series. It requires either of the two K6 head amplifiers:

  • K 6 - transformerless, powered by either AAA batteries or phantom power.
  • K 6-P - transformerless, requires phantom power

The ME64 capsule has a gentle low rolloff below 200Hz, and a broad +6dB boost between 5kHz and 15kHz.

Both head amps provide a switchable high-pass filter whose operating specs appear to be -6dB/octave below 250Hz. Combined with the ME64’s natural low-frequency rolloff, the effect would be a very attenuated response below 200Hz.

Sound On Sound - 1996
I must admit to being rather surprised by the ME64/K6Ps which not only deliver a vibrantly natural sound, but in a shoot-out with some of my large-diaphragm capacitor mics, they turned out to be quite a lot more sensitive. Of course, this means that when you aren’t miking up drums, the K6Ps can be used on acoustic instruments, and used with a pop shield, they make great vocal mics too.

The Sennheiser Electronics Corporation ME 64 is also known as: ME64.
