SE Electronics Titan
Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone
sE’s Titan is a multipattern FET condenser microphone with a titanium diaphragm.
The advantages of titanium over the more-commonly used gold, according to sE Electronics, are that titanium is lighter weight, stronger, and more resistant to temperature and moisture.
ProAudioReview
[The] titanium diaphragm does a wonderful job of capturing clarity, detail and transient response. Like gold, titanium doesn’t tarnish. It is a lighter and stiffer metal than gold, so it is able to move faster and provide a superior transient response. This translates into clear high frequencies with less distortion and a tighter low frequency response.
The microphone circuit is transformerless, and extraordinarily sensitive — the mic is spec’d at 40 mV/Pa, placing it among the most sensitive condensers we’ve seen.
MusicTech
Of all the microphones in the SE range, the Titan sounds closest to the Gemini. This is a surprise considering that the Gemini is an all-valve design and the Titan is resolutely solid-state. Both sound very open and clean, with a slightly nasal colouration in the midrange. The Titan falls short of the Gemini’s breathy, open presence, but it has a fuller bottom end and, perhaps, a shade more high-frequency sparkle. The Titan also sounds more processed…
ProAudioReview
Although the mic arguably has a sound of its own, I found it to somewhat resemble the Neumann FET 47 in its overall performance characteristics.
The mic ships with an elastic shockmount, a wooden storage box, and an aluminum flight case.
The Titan microphone was replaced in sE’s product lineup in 2009 by the T2, which couples the Titan’s titanium-diaphragm capsule with the 4400A’s circuitry.

The mic was released in 2005.
