OmnidirectionalCardioidBidirectionalRoswell Pro Audio Delphos II

Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone

The Delphos II was introduced in 2019, replacing the Delphos in Roswell’s product line. The new version adds a 3rd polar pattern (Fig-8), a larger body (60mm diameter), and upgraded electronics.

Both models use a selected K67 style capsule with Roswell’s proprietary “K87” tuning. This capsule has a lower amplitude high-frequency presence peak than do most K67 capsules. Because the capsule needs less corrective EQ in the circuit, the mic’s high-frequency rolloff above 12kHz is more gradual than in mics whose capsules require more-aggressive correction, e.g. the Neumann U87.

The Delphos II retains the neutral tone, high sensitivity, and low distortion of the original.

The entire DC circuit, which generates polarization voltage for the capsule, was redesigned to eliminate inductors. This reduces the DC circuit’s ultrasonic noise. The new CMOS based DC converter is described as an “ultra low noise” design. It contains significant noise filtering, using high-cost capacitors that were selected in a blind listening test.

Numerous components in the audio circuit were upgraded in this redesign. All the electrolytic capacitors are Roswell’s bespoke formulation, which has a proprietary electrolyte gel and deep foil etching. Signal capacitors are European made, axial polypropylene types, designed specifically for audio.

The mic ships with the Roswell Cutaway™ shockmount, in a new ATA style hard case.
