RØDE NT55
Detachable-Capsule Pencil Condenser Microphone
The NT5 is a small-diaphragm pencil condenser mic that ships with two interchangeable capsule heads, providing either a cardioid or omni response. The mic body contains switches giving access to a 3-way pad (0, -10, -20dB) and 3-way high-pass filter (flat, 75Hz, 150Hz).
The NT45 capsules are compatible with the NT4, NT5, NT55, and NT6 mics. Their diaphragms measure 1/2'' in diameter and are externally-biased (“true” condenser) designs.
The mic includes a basic clip (p/n RM5), the NT45-O Omni capsule head, the NT45-C Cardioid capsule head, a metal storage box, and a 10-year warranty.
Also available as a matched pair (p/n NT55MP).
Electronic Musician
The highpass filter employs a gentle 12 dB-per-octave curve, which is a good thing, because the NT55 doesn’t have an overblown bottom end to start with. I wouldn’t call it thin, but it would not be my first choice for low-end instruments such as bass or a surdo drum.
The beauty of the NT55 is in its midrange detail, which I really loved. The sound of my fingerpicking was very clear, yet strumming with a pick did not result in a “splanky” sound, which can often happen with small-capsule condensers on acoustic guitar.
The RØDE NT55 is also known as: NT55MP.
